We are honored to have our dear friends Brad and Paige contribute to this. We’ve had many a whiskey together over the years, done some deals, under and over, the table and always have a good chuckle when we are together. They are the musical salt of this patch of earth and we love them for it.

This playlist was created to celebrate and commemorate the incredible Jazz talent that Brad & Paige saw perform on the Bassline Jazz Club stage from it’s inception in 1994 till its closure (to move to a larger space in Newtown) in 2003. Brad (Brad Holmes, the founder of Bassline) asked his 15 year old son Miles (yes, he is named after Miles Davis) to create a playlist of his favorite South African jazz muso’s that played the Bassline(that he’s listened to). He was tasked to use the book written about the Bassline during the honeymoon period of our democracy as a guide > https://cutt.ly/jdRiRR3

Paige, Brad’s wife and business partner since 1998 added a few more muso’s. What’s nice about this playlist is that the songs chosen are not always the most popular ones, creating a truly musical Jazz experience. A story remembered while compiling the playlist is of the late Moses Taiwa Molelekwa's performances which always started the New Years gigs at the club, which were always sold out and started the year on the perfect note. Allen Kwela was one of their most favorite jazz guitarists and in a normal society would have been internationally renowned, in the ilk of John McClaughlin.

Sit back and enjoy many more artists such as pianists Paul Hanmer, Andile Yenana & Wessel van Rensburg, Bassists Carlo Mombelli & Sipho Gumede and legends Hugh Masekela and Abdullah Ibrahim.
